The lecture will present treatments that are possible using Aligner Orthodontics and shows that there is no difference between in-office versus the outsourced aligner treatment of the result after Aligner Orthodontics.
Craniomandibular disorders (CMD, syn. TMD) are a common condition in which symptoms and signs may vary within a single individual and from one person to another. As anatomic and functional aspects of the craniomandibular system (CMS) and the upper cervical spine are closely interconnected, CMD need a close interdisciplinary approach combining orthopedics, manual medicine, orthodontics, and dentistry.
Splints as a therapeutic treatment instrument in CMD patients are widely accepted. The association of splint therapy and aligner orthodontics not only provides comfortable and almost invisible treatment but also constitutes a powerful instrument for the orthodontic treatment of the CMD patient. To this end, precise knowledge of the temporomandibular joint, temporomandibular disorders and treatment using removable and fixed splints is indispensable. The TMJ- treatment planning and the virtual treatment procedure will be demonstrated in detail.
Since 2000, we have lived in the digital age, just the time when Aligner Orthdontics became popular. It has become possible to move teeth in complex ways and very accurately according to the software planning with aligners.
After 20 years of experience, we have a better understanding of aligner orthodontics and therefore improved knowledge of the guidelines for aligner treatment in a digital workflow. Many scientific statements on various topics exist. We know today which tooth movements are possible with aligners and where limitations are found.
Nowadays a full in-office aligner workflow (IOA) is possible. With modern orthodontic treatment software, we are able to prepare the virtual treatment by ourselves – the decisive advantage of IOA, print models and thermoform aligners in our laboratory.
