14-15.30 Radiographic diagnosis of selected diseases in oral surgery
Imaging is the most important diagnostic tool in dentistry. In many countries, a quarter or more of all radiodiagnostic images even derive from dentomaxillofacial radiology. Until today, the latter remains predominantly focused on two-dimensional diagnostics. And yet, even when daily using 2D radiographs, diagnosis is not always straightforward and some lesions can even be missed. Apart from an initial justification of the radiographic technique, proper radioprotection measures are needed for every radiographic exposure.
Then, it is essential to properly read the image to come to the right diagnosis by correlation with the clinical signs and symptoms. This lecture will be very clinical, enriched by case presentations and discussion. It is meant for every dental practitioner doing radiological diagnosis on a daily basis.
16.00-17.30 Treatment of selected diseases in oral surgery
This lecture builds further on the knowledge gathered in the previous lecture. Again, it will be enriched by clinical case presentations and discussion. Once the images are properly read, adequate diagnosis forms the basis of an efficient treatment planning. In the present lecture, the following pathologies will be discussed with regard to proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment:
- chronic and acute infections
- cyst-like lesions
- tooth related diseases of the maxillary sinus
- invasive cervical dentine resorptions
- odontogenic and other tumors
