Online Scan Quality Check Tool Set

Carestream Dental offers a set of live scan quality check guides and warnings that provide feedback in real-time.  There are three types of scan warnings, as shown in Figure 1:

  • A green arrow-shaped indicator shows the area and ideal direction in which the users should rescan missing information, providing real-time feedback that significantly increases efficiency while reducing the need for repetitive scanning and image rendering.
  • Yellow colored highlights alert the user of gaps in the scan, indicating that the area needs to be rescanned for optimal detail.
  • Green highlights alert users of holes in the data set, and automatically appear when scanning in low resolution mode.

Note: In addition to the visible online scan quality warnings, the software will automatically remove unwanted soft tissue during the live scan process, providing much cleaner live and final images.

Workflow Enhancements

Significant enhancements have been made to restorative, orthodontic and implant specialty workflows.

Restorative Workflow

There are four primary changes to the restorative workflow, as indicated below:

Pre and Post Scan Workflow: This evolutionary workflow allows the user to cut zones that have changed and then re-scan only the preparation area, eliminating duplication of effort while saving all the necessary patient information for a comprehensive patient record.

Locking Tool for Multiple Teeth: Allows the user to scan and lock up to six previously scanned preparation areas to prevent them from being updated by additional scanning. This feature can be used to lock retracted gingival tissue immediately after scanning, as the tissue might collapse and possibly degrade the scan area otherwise.

Measurement Tool: Allows the user to measure the distance between the tooth preparation and the opposing tooth.

Undercut Check: Allows for the examination of undercuts based on the selected area, helping to ensure the optimal restorative outcome.

Orthodontic Workflow

Quadrant Snapshot: Automatically extracts up to five 2D images from the scanned data set, saving time by eliminating the need to acquire intraoral photos.

Implant Workflow

Scanbody Selection Tool: Helps to prevent image mismatches that can occur when using multiple scanbodies on a single case.

Prep Check

Two new features have been added to the Prep Check:

Undercut Check: Shown in Figure 5, the Undercut Check will appear when the restoration workflow is selected.

Occlusion Mapping: Appears for all three workflows. Occlusion mapping displays a pressure map of the occlusal surface.

HD 3D Color Images

Significant improvements have been made to the viewing of the 3D mesh:

  • True-color HD 3D images can be viewed in full color, with highlight mode enabled or in monochromatic mode, as desired.
  • An intuitive mesh color adjustment tool allows for the adjustment of the color tones as needed to suit different purposes, clinical settings and personal preferences.
  • Self-adaptive hole filling automatically identifies holes and selects the appropriate anatomical color for the optimal aesthetic outcome.
  • Vibrant, realistic images help to improve communication with patients, referrals, and the lab.
