Regenerative Endodontics

Clinicians are often faced with the challenge of treating underdeveloped, immature teeth with pulpal necrosis. These cases have been traditionally treated with apexification procedures. In the last decade, regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) have emerged as an alternative for treating immature teeth. Although both procedures have the primary goal of resolving the disease process, REPs aim to achieve additional goals related to the restoration of a vital pulp-like tissue and the functional regeneration of normal homeostatic functions. This lecture focuses on discussing the current evidence that supports both procedures, while providing the biological basis for clinical decision-making. In addition, case selection, expected outcomes, and technical pitfalls will be presented and discussed.

Mechanisms of Dental Pain and its Management

Pain management is crucial for successful endodontic treatment. Appropriate pain control must be based on good understanding of pain mechanisms and pharmacology. This knowledge will help create an important foundation necessary for the identification of reasons for anesthetic failures and how to overcome these challenges. Thus, this session will review the current status of pain mechanisms, including new findings that are relevant to the clinical management of our patients.

New Frontiers in Endodontic Microsurgery

New advances in endodontic microsurgery have brought tangible benefits to patients require an intervention in a tooth previous treated with a non-surgical root canal therapy. The clinical decision of a surgical versus non-surgical retreatment must be evidence based but also based on patient’s circumstances and preferences. This session will focus on reviewing the current evidence in endodontic microsurgery, armamentarium, ergonomic tips and soft and hard tissue management. Lastly, concepts of targeted endodontic microsurgery, such as digital planning and fabrication of surgical guides, will be introduced and discussed.
