Lasers are already used for a long time in restorative dentistry. During the last decades the technology has evolved allowing us to work in a still more minimal invasive way. In this respect, the scientific literature has provided us with reliable information on effective clinical applications and procedures.  There is now also a better understanding on how laser cavity preparation and adhesive techniques interact.

Other examples of minimal invasive techniques are the use of lasers for some minor soft tissue surgery (e.g. gingivaplastia) and for dental laser bleaching. For the latter the photo-bleaching effect of KTP allows a direct bleaching with a more in depth penetration into dentine. KTP has proven its significance in the bleaching of grey teeth and tetracycline discolored teeth. Laser bleaching of dark or grey discolored teeth is also an interesting step before esthetic restoration (e.g. veneers).

During this one-day course dentists are trained in the use of appropriate wavelengths in the field of restorative dentistry and are provided with the most recent protocols including the correct scientific back-ground. Applications are also illustrated with clinical cases.

A work shop is organized during this course, so that the participants are able to test the different laser devices.

The following topics are discussed

* Typical laser-target interactions in the restorative field and specific wavelengths (KTP * Nd:YAG– Diodes – Er:YAG – Er,Cr:YSGG)

* Introduction to laser physics

* Cavity preparation and adhesive dentistry

* Non-invasive dental laser bleaching

Sprekers

Prof. dr. Roeland De Moor
Dr. Krejci Simonovic (Zürich, Switzerland)
