The aim of this course is to train dentists in the appropriate use of lasers in daily practice. This specific course focuses on the development of basic knowledge needed for the specific use of lasers in dentistry. In-depth knowledge of the basic physical principles on how to handle a dental laser and to understand how laser light works is mandatory for the safe use of a laser.
This one-day course consists of the following subjects
* history of lasers starting from the origin
* stimulated emission and the characteristics of laser light
* de build-up of a laser (optical cavity, active medium, pump (sources and
mechanisms), conduction of laser light, specific hand pieces and tips)
* the electromagnetic spectrum and the wavelengths used for dental purposes
* laser-target and laser-tissue interactions
* laser parameters
* critical analysis of the dental wavelengths: Argon, KTP, Diodes, Nd:YAG, Nd:YAP,
Er:YAG, Er,Cr:YSGG, CO2)
* laser safety (classification, rules and jurisdiction, risks and problem solving)
