Paediatric dentistry

The role of laser applications in paediatric dentistry has changed profoundly during the last decades. The scientific literature has provided us with reliable information on effective clinical applications and procedures. Different wavelengths are available and can be used for various applications such as diagnosis of pulpal vitality (Laser Doppler Flow Metry), cavity preparation (Erbium lasers), pulp capping (CO2 and Erbium lasers), LLLT – Low Level Laser Therapy (LLT – diodes), soft tissue surgery (Erbium lasers, Nd:YAG, KTP, diode), root canal cleaning and disinfection (Erbiumlasers with Laser Activated Irrigation a.o. PIPS and SWEEPS).

During these two-day course dentists are trained in the use of different wavelengths for specific applications in paediatric dentistry and are provided with the most recent protocols including the correct scientific back-ground. Applications are also illustrated in each endodontic field with clinical cases.

On the second day, a work shop is organized in the afternoon, so that the participants are able to test the different laser devices.

The following topics are discussed

* Typical laser-target interactions in the endodontic field and specific wavelengths
(KTP – Nd:YAG – Nd:YAP – Diodes – Er:YAG – Er,Cr:YSGG – CO2)

* Diagnosis of ‘true’ pulpal vitality with Laser Doppler Flow Metry

* Laser fluorescence for evaluation of caries activity

* Direct pulp capping with laser

* Cavity preparation (also without anesthesia)

* Cleaning and disinfection of the root canal

* Soft tissue surgery (E.g. frenectomy)

* LLLT and treatment of oral mucositis

The lecturers are experienced laser users and authors of several handbooks in the field of Laser Dentistry

Lasers in endodontics

The role of laser applications in endodontic procedures has changed profoundly since the beginning of this century. The scientific literature has provided us with reliable information on effective clinical applications and procedures. Different wavelengths are available and can be used for various applications such as diagnosis of pulpal vitality (Laser Doppler Flow Metry), pulp capping (CO2 and Erbium lasers), treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity (Nd:YAG and KTP), root canal cleaning and disinfection (Erbiumlasers with Laser Activated Irrigation a.o. PIPS and SWEEPS).

During these two-day course dentists are trained in the use of different wavelengths for specific endodontic applications and are provided with the most recent protocols including the correct scientific back-ground. Applications are also illustrated in each endodontic field with clinical cases.

On the second day, a work shop is organized in the afternoon, so that the participants are able to test the different laser devices.

(KTP – Nd:YAG – Nd:YAP – Diodes – Er:YAG – Er,Cr:YSGG – CO2)

* Diagnosis of ‘true’ pulpal vitality with Laser Doppler Flow Metry

* Laser fluorescence for evaluation of caries activity

* Direct pulp capping with laser

* Treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity

* Cleaning and disinfection of the root canal

* Non-invasive laser bleaching of root canal treated and sclerotic teeth

The lecturers are experienced laser users and authors of the Book: “Laser in Endodontics. Scientific Background and Clinical Applications” – Springer
